Mem0 vs Memlo: which memory to use

Last updated

Mem0 is a memory layer for developers who build AI apps: Python and Node SDKs, an API, a hosted platform and an open-source version you can run yourself. Memlo is memory for the agents you use: Claude Code, Codex, claude.ai, ChatGPT and other MCP apps share one memory you sign in to, with nothing to build or install. Pick Mem0 to add memory to your own product. Pick Memlo to give your own agents and your team one shared memory.

How Mem0 works

You send Mem0 messages or text. By default a model reads them and pulls out the facts, decisions and preferences to remember, then stores them with embeddings for search. Memories are scoped by user, agent, run or app, which suits an app with many end users. The hosted platform adds features such as graph memory, while the open-source version runs on your own infrastructure with the model and embedding provider you choose.

For coding agents, Mem0 has a hosted MCP server at https://mcp.mem0.ai/mcp and plugins for Claude Code, Codex and Cursor that capture sessions on their own. These need a Mem0 Platform account.

How Memlo works

Memlo is an MCP server at https://memlo.ai/mcp. You add it to each agent and sign in once. Agents get tools to save, search, read, change and retire memories, and every agent you sign in to sees the same ones.

Frequently asked questions

Is Mem0 open source?

Yes. The Mem0 repository is under the Apache 2.0 license, and its self-hosted server runs with Docker. Some features, such as graph memory, are only on Mem0's hosted platform.

Does Mem0 have an MCP server?

Yes. Mem0 hosts one at https://mcp.mem0.ai/mcp, for clients such as Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Codex, Cursor, Windsurf and VS Code. It needs a Mem0 Platform account.

What happened to OpenMemory?

OpenMemory was Mem0's local MCP server. On October 30, 2026 it was no longer in the Mem0 repository, and a closed GitHub issue titled "OpenMemory Sunsetting" points open-source users to the self-hosted server instead. We did not find an announcement on Mem0's site.

Is there a Mem0 alternative for Claude Code and Codex?

Memlo is one: a hosted MCP memory server that Claude Code, Codex and chat apps share. Others include claude-mem and Supermemory. See claude-mem vs Memlo and Supermemory vs Memlo.

How much does Mem0 cost?

On October 30, 2026, Mem0 listed a Free plan (with your own model key after the first 30 days, and usage-based billing past its limits) and a Custom plan with no listed price. Mem0's pricing changed on October 26, 2026.
